Module 2 students in simulated SUR-D jump!

Home

The students attending the module 2 course in Durban had the opportunity to take part in a simulated Surface Oxygen Decompression commercial diving operation with the help of the Professional Diving Centre:

Dr. Jimmy Stanbury gearing up with the help of divers at the Professional Diving Centre

Getting dressed for the dive...

A briefing is provided regarding what is expected...  These divers still have to learn that organizing doctors is worse than "herding cats"!!

What did he say again!?!?

A "giant leap" to enter the quarry... Only two divers in the water at a time

Maximum diving depth: 10m

Some time is spent in the diving bell - talking to the surface while monitored with video...

Time from the bell to chamber bottom is supposed to be 5 minutes maximum...

Struggling for 10 minutes to get your fins off....  Problems coming!!

No running allowed...  (unless you want decompression sickness!!)

The deck decompression chamber is of a size normally used in commercial operations...  smaller than you think!

Jimmy with a smile! (Reason: This is only a simulation...  otherwise he would have been bent!!!)   The only reason for this smile is because it was a simulation!! (10 minutes are way too long!!)   Bob Long - one of the few divers who actually made it it time!!

Our sincere thanks for Mr Grant Jameson and the Professional Diving Centre for this opportunity!!  Well worth it!!!
